Ploneflashupload bug hunt requestΒΆ

Tags: plone

I finally got around to putting a proper release (1.1 beta2) of ploneflashupload on and .

There's a big bug: on linux (at least ubuntu), the flash uploaded crashes firefox (at least the 2.x). Two colleagues reliably have that problem. Anyone with a bit of flash experience that could give me a hint? .

Hi sisi,

Could you add your findings to the issue tracker at Otherwise I or someone else is going to lose track of it.
"More verbose error message" by on 2008-04-01 12:36:44
Hi Reinout,

I have a Plone 3.0.6 buildout with PloneFlashUpload 1.1 beta2.
I am using firefox on Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn) and before I upgraded to flash 9.0.115 my browser would crash, as you detailed. Now I have upgraded and it works (thanks for the tip!)

I have a suggestion though: I get an error message (firefox, not plone) "Error. Error on uploading files" if I have a file in the directory I am trying to upload to with the same name. The only reason I know this is the reason is because I peeked in my instance.log, but it might be nice to let users who don't have permissions to view the instance.log that the error is very simple to solve :-) I'm not sure how non trivial it is to generate a different error message, since it's a browser message and not a plone message, but I thought I'd let you know anyway, just in case.

It's a great product and we're super happy to be using it on a plone 3 site already, so thanks!
"re-compiled .fla? yes please" by reinout on 2008-01-23 13:45:31
I don't know anything internally about flash, but it sounds like a good plan. So: yes, please :-)

Hi, we have recompiled the .fla file with the latest version of Flash (the compiler). Sizes of generated files (.js and .swf) have swapped (js bigger and swf smaller). If you want to test it, I can send it to you.

Yes, PloneFlashUpload works fine for me with the latest download from adobe:

Before that, Firefox would crash or not respond or simply not upload a file, depending on the fullness of the moon for all I know. ;-) Usually adding the first image/file *did* work.

Didn't know it did work on your computer. If a newer version solves it, the least we can do is a quick check for firefox that displays a small warning.

One extra bit of information might be that the two colleagues are using the standard flash that comes with Ubuntu Gutsy. I know that the flash did work on my machine, but I had installed the latest flash version from Adobe's website. Maybe that hint will help someone with more knowledge of the internals of Flash and the Ubuntu version. logo
